Homicide Unit
The Homicide Unit investigates and reviews some of the most serious incidents that affect the lives, health, and welfare of the public.
In conjunction with local police departments and the Ocean County Sheriff's Department, the Homicide Unit investigates all murders, suicides, suspicious or accidental deaths, and assaults where the victim sustains life-threatening injuries.
This Unit also investigates missing persons where foul play is suspected. The Unit also reviews and investigates "cold case" or unresolved homicides.
The cold case investigators are tasked with reviewing all cold case homicides and submitting items of evidence for analysis using state of the art forensic technology. The technology can be utilized to examine DNA, fingerprints and other trace evidence relevant to the investigation.
